{"id":3593,"date":"2021-04-19T17:05:28","date_gmt":"2021-04-19T15:05:28","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/gregoryderville.com\/?p=3593"},"modified":"2025-09-17T20:18:03","modified_gmt":"2025-09-17T18:18:03","slug":"pulp-dont-you-want-me-anymore","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/gregoryderville.com\/index.php\/2021\/04\/19\/pulp-dont-you-want-me-anymore\/","title":{"rendered":"Pulp &#8211; \u00ab\u00a0Don&rsquo;t you want me anymore ?\u00a0\u00bb"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Au d\u00e9but des ann\u00e9es 90, apr\u00e8s quelques ann\u00e9es de vache enrag\u00e9e, le groupe anglais <a href=\"https:\/\/gregoryderville.com\/index.php\/tag\/simple-minds\/\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/gregoryderville.com\/index.php\/tag\/simple-minds\/\">Pulp <\/a>a enfin re\u00e7u un beau succ\u00e8s d&rsquo;estime avec une pop m\u00e9lancolique et neurasth\u00e9nique, mais aussi excentrique et lyrique, \u00e0 l&rsquo;image de son chanteur Jarvis Cocker, un grand d\u00e9gingand\u00e9 aux costumes de sc\u00e8ne parfois un peu improbables.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Le succ\u00e8s n&rsquo;est arriv\u00e9 que plus tard, lorsque Pulp est pass\u00e9 sur des labels mieux distribu\u00e9s, mais les albums ult\u00e9rieurs n&rsquo;ont pas pour moi la saveur du commencement, et en particulier de l&rsquo;album \u00ab\u00a0Separations\u00a0\u00bb .<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u00c0 l&rsquo;\u00e9poque (1992), cet album \u00e9tait \u00e0 contre-courant par rapport au bruit et \u00e0 la fureur du grunge. Ici il est question d&rsquo;un romantisme sombre (oui je sais, c&rsquo;est un pl\u00e9onasme), \u00e0 premi\u00e8re vue assez kitsch, mais en r\u00e9alit\u00e9 tr\u00e8s sensible (oui je sais, c&rsquo;est encore un pl\u00e9onasme). L&rsquo;expression des sentiments est intense, encourag\u00e9e sans doute par l&rsquo;usage de certaines substances qui n&rsquo;\u00e9taient pas en vente libre dans les groceries de Sheffield. La premi\u00e8re moiti\u00e9 (la face A, c&rsquo;\u00e9tait juste \u00e0 l&rsquo;apparition du CD) anticipe sur la<a href=\"https:\/\/gregoryderville.com\/index.php\/tag\/brit-pop\/\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/gregoryderville.com\/index.php\/tag\/brit-pop\/\"> <\/a><a href=\"https:\/\/gregoryderville.com\/index.php\/tag\/britpop\/\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/gregoryderville.com\/index.php\/tag\/britpop\/\">britpop<\/a>, avec des titres assez intimistes et des m\u00e9lodies tr\u00e8s l\u00e9g\u00e8res, tandis que la face B bascule dans un registre plus fr\u00e9n\u00e9tique, avec une musique \u00e9lectronique encore plus omnipr\u00e9sente (l&rsquo;influence de Kraftwerk est tr\u00e8s pr\u00e9gnante sur le dernier titre).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Plusieurs morceaux mixent de fa\u00e7on g\u00e9niale le c\u00f4t\u00e9 m\u00e9lancolique et le c\u00f4t\u00e9 dansant \u2013 par exemple \u00ab\u00a0Countdown\u00a0\u00bb ou l&rsquo;\u00e9bouriffant \u00ab\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/gregoryderville.com\/index.php\/2023\/07\/15\/pulp-my-legendary-girlfriend\/\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/gregoryderville.com\/index.php\/2023\/07\/15\/pulp-my-legendary-girlfriend\/\">My legendary girlfriend<\/a>\u00a0\u00bb . Comme l&rsquo;a \u00e9crit parfaitement Hugo Cassavetti, <a href=\"https:\/\/gregoryderville.com\/index.php\/tag\/simple-minds\/\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/gregoryderville.com\/index.php\/tag\/simple-minds\/\">Pulp <\/a>est pass\u00e9 ma\u00eetre dans \u00ab\u00a0<em>l&rsquo;art de lib\u00e9rer son spleen sur la piste de danse<\/em>\u00a0\u00bb .<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u00ab\u00a0Don&rsquo;t you want me anymore ?\u00a0\u00bb fait partie de la premi\u00e8re moiti\u00e9 de l&rsquo;album: une pop cisel\u00e9e, avec une m\u00e9lodie magnifique et des arrangements subtils.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>C&rsquo;est une chanson qui d\u00e9crit la stup\u00e9faction et l&rsquo;effroi d&rsquo;un gar\u00e7on qui, apr\u00e8s l&rsquo;avoir d\u00e9laiss\u00e9e, revient vers la fille qu&rsquo;il aime, certain d&rsquo;\u00eatre attendu avec amour\u2026 mais qui se rend compte qu&rsquo;elle s&rsquo;est d\u00e9tach\u00e9e de lui et qu&rsquo;elle s&rsquo;est d\u00e9j\u00e0 remise en couple avec un autre. Ce qu&rsquo;il exprime alors, ce sont les deux premi\u00e8res \u00e9tapes du cycle du deuil: le d\u00e9ni (non non, ceci n&rsquo;est pas en train d&rsquo;arriver, ce n&rsquo;est pas possible, \u00e7a doit \u00eatre un mauvais r\u00eave), et le marchandage (et s&rsquo;il se passait ceci, est-ce que \u00e7a pourrait tout effacer ?)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>La fa\u00e7on dont la chanson s&#8217;emballe subitement, \u00e0 1&rsquo;48, est tr\u00e8s saisissante. La voix de Jarvis Cocker s&rsquo;affole puis s&rsquo;\u00e9trangle, le violon devient plus strident, le rythme s&rsquo;acc\u00e9l\u00e8re et devient quelque peu syncop\u00e9, et tout cela traduit de fa\u00e7on subtile l&rsquo;impression que le sol se d\u00e9robe, et la terreur que se r\u00e9activent des blessures anciennes: \u00ab\u00a0Quoi ? Un abandon, encore ?\u00a0\u00bb<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u00ab\u00a0Don&rsquo;t you want me anymore ?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>And I can&rsquo;t I can&rsquo;t believe it&rsquo;s happening<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I know that oh there must be some mistake<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You&rsquo;ve found yourself another lover and you&rsquo;re glad we made the break<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Oh you don&rsquo;t even you don&rsquo;t even want to see me<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You just wanna wave and say \u00abGoodbye.
